Dr. Eric Meeker discusses patients fears of the dentist
Sometimes a painful tooth just needs to be removed. Dr. Eric Meeker can do this quickly and painlessly.
If a tooth is painfully infected, and it is determined that extraction is the preferred treatment option, it is usually best to have it removed as soon as possible. Antibiotics and analgesics can be prescribed after the extraction. They will be much more effective if the source of the infection (the abscessed tooth) has already been removed.
Wisdom Teeth—Do I really need them removed?
Wisdom Teeth usually erupt between ages 16-18. It is recommended that they be removed at that time for several reasons:
With their removal there is less risk of tooth decay and periodontal (gum) disease in these hard-to-reach areas.
If the child had/has braces, wisdom teeth removal prevents the pushing (and moving) those nice straight teeth.
They are easiest to remove at this age.
Kids heal quicker.
