Root Canals by Dr. Eric Meeker

Dr. Eric Meeker discusses patients fears of the dentist

Root canals are probably the most misunderstood procedure in all of dentistry.  They have been the butt of many jokes, and the mystery surrounding this treatment keeps many people from finding the relief they are so desperately seeking.

In contrast to what you may have heard, root canals are almost always painless.

The patient is completely numb for the procedure.

Root canals relieve existing pain.

Patients feel MUCH better afterwards.

During a root canal:

  1. The patient is first numbed.
  2. Only the decay and infected pulp tissue are removed-- you keep the root of your tooth.
  3. The root canal system is then cleaned, disinfected, and filled.
  4. This is done in either 1 or 2 visits depending on the severity of the infection and the complexity of the case.

Extremely difficult cases will be referred to a root canal specialist.  In all cases you will be treated quickly and humanely.

They really, really are painless.

If you are having a toothache, don’t wait for it to resolve itself.  It never does.  Call Dr. Eric Meeker to see what needs to be done to permanently relieve your dental pain.
